Junior High
Junior High at St. Francis is a great place to be! Within smaller class sizes, students at St. Francis are able to learn more deeply and apply their learning in a pragmatic and meaningful way. Ignatian Spirituality is at the forefront of what we do; guiding our students to become lifelong learners who are committed to excellence in mind, body and spirit.
Teachers at St. Francis combine a traditional curriculum with Ignatian ideals, creating an environment where students are not only engaged in understanding the topics, but why they matter and how they are applied in the world. Real life application in the digital age, with an emphasis on STEM integration is present across the curriculum. Through rigorous reading and writing, students in Language Arts and Social Studies are challenged to understand their relevance in a global society. Conversational and written Spanish are taught to all students twice a week in an engaging way that enhances retention. Religion is taught across the curriculum and is dedicated to revealing our faith and calls for students to live a grateful and faith filled life.
The arts are a priority in Jesuit Education, and at St. Francis we are pleased to offer many opportunities to develop these gifts. Every student attends Art and Music on a regular basis. These classes focus on appreciation, application of skills and allows all students the opportunity to develop artistic talents. Our musical ensembles develop instrumental and vocal techniques and talents for all interested students. For the theatrical students, multiple opportunities are available to learn this craft and perform for live audiences.
Students attend Physical Education twice a week, and in addition to improving athletic ability, students are asked to grow as leaders on the fields and courts. There are many opportunities for extracurricular sports at St. Francis. Students can take part in volleyball, cross country, football, softball, basketball and baseball.
Giving students an opportunity to lead and share the gifts God has given us, is a high priority at St. Francis. We have many different leadership groups that challenge our students to contribute to their school and communities. Students are able to join National Junior Honor Society (Click here to see requirements), Yearbook and Student Council. Our Magis club is a uniquely Jesuit group of students whose mission is to care for the soul of the school. Leadership Corps develops students as ambassadors, and our Campus Ministry Team is a group dedicated to serving our Church.
Personal growth happens on a daily basis in the Junior High wing at St. Francis. While showing their unique personality, each student is challenged individually to reach their full potential. They truly become Men and Women for Others.
