Summer Math & Reading 2019

Listed here are the summer reading and math recommendations/requirements for Kindergarten - 8th grade. This year we have made some changes to our summer program.  Kindergarten through fourth grade will have recommended reading and math assignments but they will not be counted as a grade for the new school year.  Fifth through eighth grade will have summer reading and math assignments that will be turned in and graded at the beginning of the new school year.

The objective of this change was to assign an appropriate amount of  math and language arts for an enrichment experience that promotes retention of material, challenge students, while allowing them the opportunity to enjoy their summer with family.   Please remember the “summer slide” is a real thing.  For parents with younger children reading aloud lays foundation in important skills. Some of these benefits include learning vocabulary and enjoying fluent, expressive reading.  For children who are readers, like every skill, practice reaps benefits.
