Summer Math & Reading

This summer, we ask all students to help prevent the summer slide by reading and practicing their math skills.  Research tells us that students who begin school after a summer of reading and math review, begin the year stronger and make immediate gains.

Please see below for the Summer Reading & Math assignments by grade level. We will not be sending home printed copies, so you will need to download and print on your own.

Rising Kindergarten through 2nd Grade
This summer we are offering a homework choice board to create differentiated, higher level thinking opportunities at home. We are very excited about this as it will allow students to take ownership of their own learning. Please be sure to return the homework choice board (signed) as well as any of the required activities during the first week of school. Ensure that your child has written his/her name and date on each assignment.  Click on the button below to download it.

Reading
Over the summer, students are asked to continue with their reading goals to maintain their intellectual competence and be open to growth. Students are required to read two books: the first is required and the second is to be chosen from the provided options.  Students will take a quiz over the required book during the first week of school, and turn in a detailed one pager assignment for the choice novel.

Mathnasium
School is winding down, and most families are looking forward to summer break. But summer is also the ideal time to keep math skills sharp. Your child can avoid the "summer slide" and have fun at the same time by attending summer sessions with Mathnasium.

We love being part of the SFX family and are offering students the same deal to come to our center over the summer for $199.99/month for 8 sessions of tutoring.

Our center is open Mon - Thurs from 3:00-7:00 PM and Friday 11:00 AM-3:00PM. No need to make appointments, just drop in with your student anytime during the week to get math help over summer!

Noetic Summer Challenge Math Program
(available for rising 3rd - 8th graders June 9 - July 31).

Our 2nd–5th grade SFX Math Team used the Noetic Challenge Program this spring to prepare for the Noetic Learning Math Contest, and our coaches were impressed by the non-routine, challenging problems that stretched and excited our students.

The summer program offers a great opportunity for students who enjoy thinking creatively and tackling new kinds of math challenges. Check it out here.

If you any have questions, please email our Math and Data Coach Mrs. Valladao. Happy problem solving!
